The CIHEAM is proud to announce the participation of its Secretary General, Teodoro Miano, in the 8th "4 per 1000" Initiative Day, scheduled for November 26–27, 2024. This international event, dedicated to promoting sustainable agricultural practices for soil carbon storage, brings together policymakers, experts, and partners committed to combating climate change and ensuring global food security.
During the event, the Secretary General will speak in a session focused on the 12th CIHEAM Ministerial Meeting, held recently in Rabat on October 25, 2024. This session will highlight the key outcomes of the meeting, including the significant participation of Stéphane Le Foll, former French Minister and president of the "4 per 1000" initiative.
Teodoro Miano will outline the commitments made during the Rabat meeting, emphasizing the promotion of sustainable Mediterranean food systems, support for youth and women in agriculture, and innovation in resource management. He will also shed light on the alignment between CIHEAM's initiatives and the objectives of the "4 per 1000" Initiative, further strengthening the connections between climate resilience and food sovereignty in the Mediterranean region.
About the "4 per 1000" Initiative
Launched at COP21 in 2015, the "4 per 1000" Initiative advocates for solutions to enhance organic matter in agricultural soils, thereby improving soil fertility and its function as a carbon sink. CIHEAM actively supports this effort to promote a sustainable and inclusive future for Mediterranean food systems.
