Saint-Malo, France, 29 May
On 29 May, in Saint-Malo, the Centre Mondial de l’Innovation du Groupe Roullier welcomed Mr Teodoro Miano, Secretary General of the CIHEAM, to sign a framework agreement to promote sustainable agriculture in the Mediterranean. The aim of the agreement is to exchange scientific know-how and develop collaboration to protect natural resources (water, air, soil) in the face of growing environmental challenges.
Agri-food systems under pressure
Mediterranean agricultural areas are particularly vulnerable to the effects of climate change. Temperatures are rising, droughts are increasing and rainfall is decreasing. Soil degradation is also alarming. Arable land is affected by erosion, salinisation and loss of organic matter. It is estimated that the demand for food in the southern and eastern Mediterranean will increase sharply due to population growth, while natural resources will diminish. This situation puts increasing pressure on agri-food systems and requires accelerated transitions in production and consumption models, based in particular on multi-stakeholder dynamics.
Strengthening partnerships with innovation companies and stakeholders
To meet these challenges, partnerships with the private sector and innovators are essential. The recent agreement between the CIHEAM and Groupe Roullier is a concrete example of this. Groupe Roullier, through Timac Agro Italia, has been working with the CIHEAM for many years to promote sustainable agriculture. CMI Roullier stands out for its tailor-made solutions adapted to the specific needs of each country. By innovating in the fields of fertilisation and biostimulation, Groupe Roullier contributes to increasing the resilience of agricultural systems in the face of climate change.
Groupe Roullier is an independent family-owned company with consolidated sales of €3 billion and 10,400 employees, 74% of whom work outside France. Its diversified activities (soil, plant and animal nutrition, agri-food, renewable energies), focused on human needs, demonstrate its commitment to the challenges of the future, making innovation and continuous improvement a daily challenge.
