SESAME: A North-South Think Thank to Feed Debate and Identify Alternative Strategies |
The “Seminars of Water and Food Security in the Mediterranean” » (SESAME) were initiated by the General Councils of the French (CGAAER) and Moroccan (CGDA2) Ministries of Agriculture with the support of the French Development Agency (AFD), after the 6th World Water Forum (Marseille, 2012) and the publication of the “Water and Food Security” report. From their 2nd edition (2014), these seminars were extended to West Africa. Going “from science to politics on the ground”, these seminars are intended as platforms for North-South exchanges and as laboratories of ideas on the cross-cutting issue of the sustainable development of rural territories, the management of natural resources and climate change. They are aimed at feeding dialogue and debate to identify alternative, innovative and pragmatic strategies to meet the challenges faced by the 3 SESAME sub-regions. 7 “SESAME” North-South seminars have been organised from 2013-2022 to feed dialogue and debate on the cross-cutting issue of natural resources, agriculture and climate change as well as on alternative strategies to be promoted in the North and South of the Mediterranean and the Sahara. Focused on the theme of water and agricultural and rural development the 7th edition “On the road to Dakar” was held at the end of October 2021 in Montpellier. Seven important observations/recommendations on this priority theme of the “Dakar” emerged from these discussions. 7th SESAME Report: Download SESAME Recommendations: Download On the road to Agenda 2030 (ODD) “Water, agroecology, territorialisation of policies and rural development” Summary of the main observations and recommendations Download |
