The CIHEAM Participates in the Arab Water Forum and Co-Organizes a Session with the Arab Water Council
For the third time the CIHEAM will participate in the Arab Water Forum, which will be held from 16 to 18 September 2024 in Abu Dhabi, United Arab Emirates. This internationally renowned event brings together leaders and experts from across the water value chain to promote innovative solutions aimed at ensuring access to clean water and sanitation for all, in a context where water-related challenges are becoming increasingly complex. The Forum will feature interactive debates revolving around three main themes:
- Addressing Emerging Regional Challenges
- Innovative Approaches for Adaptation and Resilience
- Pathways to a Sustainable Water Future
When Youth and Women Shape Water Security and a Sustainable Future
Contributing to discussions on new pathways towards greater inclusivity, equity, and sustainability, the AWC and the CIHEAM will co-organise a strategic session on 18 September entitled "Youth and Gender Voices on Water Security and for a Sustainable Future." This interactive session will highlight the critical perspectives of youth and women on water security and a sustainable future.
In addition to the AWC and the CIHEAM, this session will bring together speakers from UNESCO, ESCWA, UNDP, UNICEF, as well as regional youth and gender organisations and networks. It will emphasise the indispensable role of women, youth, and marginalised communities, showcasing their contributions to climate advocacy and the innovative solutions they are developing, particularly in the context of green and blue transformation.
The event will culminate in the formulation of a declaration on youth empowerment and the integration of a gender perspective, which will be presented to all participants, along with policy recommendations and future actions.
The 2024 Arab Water Forum takes place in a context where the Arab region faces water scarcity exacerbated by climate change, conflicts, and economic crises. By co-organising this session, the CIHEAM reaffirms its commitment to promoting and supporting a more equitable and sustainable water resources management, while highlighting the importance of including the perspectives of youth and women in the search for sustainable solutions.
