On Friday 15 December, the Secretary General, Mr Teodoro Miano, received at the CIHEAM headquarters, Mr Vladimir Joković, Deputy Prime Minister in charge of the Economic System and Minister of Agriculture, Forestry and Water Management of Montenegro as well as the Ambassador of the Republic of Montenegro to France, H.E. Ivan Ivanišević. Montenegro was one of the republics making up the former Yugoslavia, one of the founding Member States of the CIHEAM.

During the meeting, the Secretary General presented the main activities of the Centre in the fields of higher education, research and cooperation and discussed the 12th meeting of the MOAN network (MEDITERRANEAN ORGANIC AGRICULTURE NETWORK) which will be held in Podgorica the capital of Montenegro on 23-24 January 2024.

The Deputy Prime Minister, Mr Vladimir Joković, expressed a strong interest in his country joining the CIHEAM and in developing cooperation on the sustainable management of forest ecosystems, coastal zones and fisheries, with particular emphasis on the inclusion and strengthening of the place of young people and women in these sectors. Lastly, collaboration on improving product quality and compliance with phytosanitary protocols for exports was also discussed.
