Date and Time: 26 November 2024, 3:30 PM–4:15 PM CET
Location: MED Forum, Rome / Videoconference
On 26 November 2024, Frida Krifca, President of the CIHEAM Governing Board participated in a key session titled "Acting on the Climate-Food-Water Nexus" at the MED Dialogue Forum in Rome. Bringing together experts and decision-makers, this panel discussion will address critical challenges faced by the Mediterranean region, identified as a significant “climate change hotspot.”
Moderated by Mona Sukkarieh, the discussion will feature Sarine Karajerjian, Programme Director at the Arab Reform Initiative, Giampaolo Silvestri, Secretary General of AVSI, and Frida Krifca. The dialogue will revolve around two key themes:
- Addressing the current threats posed by the climate-food-water nexus.
- Fostering regional cooperation and sustainable solutions through innovation and knowledge sharing.
An Urgent and Complex Context
The Mediterranean region is bearing the brunt of climate change impacts: increasing aridity, water stress, land degradation, and extreme weather events. These threats are further exacerbated by humanitarian and economic crises, especially in conflict-affected areas. Frida Krifca highlighted the necessary measures to strengthen agricultural resilience and food security in this context. She specifically explained how North-South cooperation, science diplomacy, and innovation can provide sustainable solutions to these multifaceted challenges.
What is the MED Forum?
Launched in 2015, MED Forum – Mediterranean Dialogues is a major international platform for strategic dialogue and collaborative solutions addressing the challenges of the Mediterranean region. Organised by the Italian Ministry of Foreign Affairs and the ISPI Foundation, this annual event brings together Heads of State, experts, international organisations, and civil society representatives to discuss political, economic, social, and environmental issues. In 2024, the Forum focuses on climate change, food security, migration, and regional cooperation in a context marked by complex crises.
