PREPARATORY DEBATE
In anticipation of the 12th Ministerial Meeting of CIHEAM Member States, a special debate was organized in July 2024 in Birgu, Malta. This event brought together a diverse range of participants to engage in an in-depth reflection on major issues related to food sovereignty, the interdependences of agricultural and food systems, and equitable access to nutritious food. Concrete recommendations were made to bridge the gaps between policy and implementation, strengthen access to financing for small farmers, and promote technological innovation in support of sustainable agriculture.
This summary document provides an overview of the reflections and recommendations that emerged from this strategic debate, laying the groundwork for the political discussions to come during the ministerial meeting.
