• The SFS-MED Platform, comprising the FAO, the CIHEAM, the Union for the Mediterranean and the PRIMA Foundation, organized a successful sixth technical webinar titled "Green Growth: Strategies and Actions to Shift towards Sustainable Food Systems in the Mediterranean Region"
• The webinar convened policymakers, researchers, and practitioners to address urgent sustainability challenges in the Mediterranean agri-food systems, offering insights on innovative solutions, collaborative approaches, and the importance of transitioning to sustainable practices for food security and environmental conservation.

12 September 2023, Paris (France) - The SFS-MED Platform, a leading network composed of the International Centre for Advanced Mediterranean Agronomic Studies (CIHEAM), the United Nations Food and Agriculture Organization (FAO), the Union for the Mediterranean,  and the PRIMA Foundation, successfully organised its sixth technical webinar on September 12th, 2023. Entitled “Green growth: strategies and actions to move towards sustainable food systems in the Mediterranean region”, the webinar focused on crucial measures to transform food systems in the region.

The event attracted the interest of various stakeholders, including policy-makers, researchers and professionals, who converged to explore innovative strategies and technological solutions for greening agri-food systems in the Mediterranean.

With food security, environmental preservation and socio-economic development at stake, the webinar stressed the urgent need to address the challenges of sustainability in Mediterranean agri-food systems. Factors such as water scarcity, land degradation and the adverse effects of climate change have had a significant impact on food production in the region, thus requiring a rapid transition to sustainable practices.

The interactive webinar allowed participants to engage in discussions on collaborative approaches to bridge the gap between research and practical applications.

The event featured comprehensive insights into sustainable agri-food systems, covering areas such as sustainable agriculture, post-harvest management, food processing, and waste management. Participants were exposed to practical examples of sustainable food production and consumption practices, as well as discussions on the key roles played by innovative technologies and policies, and targeted financial initiatives.
